Mommy Days

Gary, Corb and Brady had been looking forward to an overnight float, fishing, camping trip this summer. On Sunday evening we looked at the options, and Tues-Wed looked best, which gave Corb and Gary the opportunities both to pack/prepare for the trip and to explore a new place to fish on Monday! I took advantage of the "down day" to join some of my friends who were taking their kids to "Rexburg Rapids," a new outdoor waterpark just under an hour away. We all even took a few extra kids along for the fun. The kids loved running around with a gang of buddies. The waterpark was crowded, but certainly did not disappoint!

On Monday evening, after the kids were in bed, Sue and I were waiting for Corb and Gary to return when Sue got the phone call with the sad news that her mother, Lala, had just passed away. Lala's passing, while not unexpected, was certainly a surprise at this moment. Gary and Sue were impressively able to pack up and be on the road by early Tuesday morning. While we were all sad to see them leave early, we are happy that they were within a day's drive to be where they needed to be. The kids were somewhat prepared for Lala's passing. Although they have acknowledged the sadness in losing Lala, and have expressed concern for Grandma Sue in particular, they seem to find true joy in the idea that not only will Lala get to see her husband, Bill, but that she will likely now takeover the care of Huck ... and might even get to meet Uncle Ted! They remain somewhat concerned about what will happen to Lala's dog, Sasha. We have reassured them that Poppa Gary and Grandma Sue will make sure she's well cared for!

On Tuesday, we sat down as a family and tried to prioritize what everyone still wanted to do with the time that we have left here. What we realized is that we've all done pretty much all that we wanted to do! We all discussed a few remaining hopes (biking, camping, more milkshakes, and mostly time with friends) and agreed to try to appreciate each moment that we have. That made it easy to accept an invitation to join friends down at the Teton Springs pool that afternoon for swimming and poolside music by the Miller Sisters, who we just love! We even snuck in a stop at the library and the Victor Emporium for milkshakes along the way. Since the afternoon and evening looked to be mostly "mommies" and kids, Corb opted to stay home and prepare his pontoon boat for a few evening trips down the Teton River. The kids and I had a wonderful time, enjoying precious time with good friends and appreciating good, fun music!
